The chest piece is the ultimate spot for a tattoo! Thats how I felt, so I decided I wanted to charge. It took me about 4 months of talking about it and meeting with different tattoo artists to figure out who I wanted to do it. I felt that this was a big deal, so I did not want just anybody to do it. Its on you for life, so I decided to pay good money and get it done by John montgomery. He's an artist that works out of his own shop, tattoo syndicate in san bernardino.

He was the original artist I had in mind.I Had seen his work in every magazine and he had already tattooed many member's of bands my friends and I were into. I looked around at many artists from santa ana down to san diego. I Just did not find anybody's work that I liked more than John's. After talking to him the first time in august I went back the first week of december and set an appointment. I explained to him what I wanted and he told me what we were going to do. It was very similar to what I wanted, but placed differently with some parts bigger and other's smaller. It was not how I wanted it but he's the artist so he knew what would be better. His idea sounded so amazing, but it was nothing compared to what the sketch would be.
On January 2nd I went in to begin my outline. I was extremely nervous after hearing how bad the chest is. After seeing the transfer put on my fear turned to excitement. It was huge on me and I loved it. The outline took about 2 hours and I was on my way to having a great chest piece. I went back every 2 weeks.. Just enough time for it to completely heal. I wanted to get it done quick. There is nothing that looks worse than a person walking around with an outline for a year. I did not want to be one of those people.I never start a big piece unless I have the money to do the entire thing. It took 4 sessions I believe and about 10 hours to finish it. the second session was making certain lines thick and shading the whole right side. In the third session we finished all the shading and began the color. color is my favorite part of tattoo. The fourth session we finished it all up. I was shocked when it was all done because I expected it to be way more painful than it was. The outline was the worst part, but the shading and color was a breeze. To this day though with all my tattoo's, the armpit part of it is the worst pain i've felt from a tattoo. Although getting the tattoo wasn't that bad the healing process is horrible. I would barely get any sleep the first 2 nights after every session..i would be soar, so wearing a t shirt is uncomfortable. Showering is a pain in the butt as well.
Everyone who see's my chest piece is blown away. I could not be more happy with it. The colors are so bright and the line work is perfect. I'm glad i went to john. He recently did my sleeve on my left arm and we are about to start my right leg sleeve.I Highly recommend being tattooed by him. I would go anywhere else now. I figure it's on you for life, so you might as well pay the money and get it done right. Do not trust just anybody to tattoo you. I see way to many people walking around with horrible tattoos that they hate. Do your research before you start getting tattooed. I strongly suggest getting your chest done over anything else. Its the center of your body and looks the best in my opinion. Im a bit paranoid about letting sun see it. Its been over a year and i've never been outside without a shirt on. I do not want it getting all faded and looking like crap. If I do decide to let the sun see it please believe i'll be putting some sun block 50 on it.
My experience was awesome. Im so glad I went through all that to get my chest piece. Im covered in tattoo's now and its still my favorite piece. Its also the piece that gets the most attention next to my sleeve of david and goliath. I plan on being heavily covered in the next few years, but leaving my hands and neck blank. I promised my mother I would not get tattooed there and I have to honor her. Leg sleeve next, so wish me luck. Thank you for reading my story. Go and get tattoo's by john montgomery
